Barbie Girl Pt. II

Christian Louboutin makes fabulous shoes in general, but when they are in pink... well, they are simply perfection. Add glitter and it's a shoe that even Barbie would covet. I would wear these no matter what the occasion; what girl doesn't feel fabulous in something sparkly and pink?

These drool-worthy pumps are available at Saks. I can't wait to see which celebrity wears these first (my guess is Phillipe Blond)!

Ann Demeulemeester Spring/Summer 2010

Ann Demeulemeester always creates the most perfect and gorgeous neo-goth designs. This season, per usual, is filled with lots of black and white, but possesses a heightened sensuality for the designer. Everything is exquisitely tailored, but also flows with delicate femininity.

Plunging necklines add a sexiness not normally apparent in her shows; the bare skin is not raunchy, however, when paired with leather cummerbunds and covered up shoulders and legs. Another interesting aspect of this collection is that the use of wire over the model's faces portrays them as caged birds, a motif that is carried through to the bird print used throughout the collection.

I would absolutely love to wear any of these looks, though I would probably wear a pocket tee underneath. I can't wait to see these outfits in editorials!

Advance

GQ U.K.'s Fall/Winter 2009 Style Guide features many editorials styled to showcase the hot male fashions for the season. One editorial, in particular, caught my eye; in "Advance," shot by Ben Dunbar-Bruton, models Reid Prebenda and Ollie Edwards wear sophisticated, classic style with an edge.

The editorial has a very 80's investment banker, rich-boy-gone-bad (a la Chuck Bass) feel. The image of the stocking over Reid's face immediately brought to mind Patrick Bateman from American Psycho, deranged yet oh-so-sophisticated. The classic suit is updated with flair: colorful, patterned ties are bold statements that show a whimsicality and masculinity that grabs attention.

Furthermore, adding an interestingly shaped overcoat immediately takes a business outfit from "just fine" to fashionable; adding a cape is a dramatic, neo-goth statement that still oozes class. Stripes, as well, are featured prominently, and add another dimension to the look -- mixing patterns takes skill, but when a man pulls it off, he is irresistibly chic.

In sum, to recreate this look, pair a striped shirt with a pink or orange patterned tie under a navy pinstripe suit. For a dramatic effect, add an "interesting" coat of your choice, and top it off with attitude.

Blumarine Spring/Summer 2010

Oh, Blumarine. You know exactly how to make a girl feel, well, girly. Continuing their successful theme of bright, flirty dresses, Blumarine's Spring/Summer 2010 collection features beautiful, lively colors in a variety of shapes and patterns. Moreover, they have an outfit for almost every occasion, making this collection quite practical and wearable, though still utterly fashionable.

While tie-dye is a prominent trend in the collection, the real stand-out print is camouflage. When has it ever looked so sophisticated? Adding decorative accents of day-glo orange and yellow, figure hugging dresses make the army-print work and even look chic. While wearing an entire dress in camouflage might be a little excessive for everyday wear, I look forward to accessories with the print -- I would die for a summer scarf with this pattern!

As the weather gets colder, I know I'll be looking back to this collection so that I am warmed by thoughts of a colorful and chic spring. Below are my favorite looks from the collection:

Burberry Spring/Summer 2010

Burberry is always consistent in bringing classics to life. For this Spring, the classic trench is updated with satin and wrapping in floaty pale colors. The mint green reminds me of mint chocolate chip ice cream and looks just as delicious as the ice cream flavor; it's a color that isn't seen too often on the streets but makes a beautiful, womanly statement (and flatters most skin tones).

The looks showcase fabrics that are all sheer, light, and gauzy. The ethereal take on the "bandage" look is stunning, and when paired with the classic, sophisticated cardigan, these outfits radiate the oh-so-chic "London look" that mixes edge with class.

Belts are key accessories, giving the models the coveted "hourglass" shape. Furthermore, socks in a very neutral beige are paired with heels, a trend that only seems to be hotter this season. For anyone who has tried the socks-with-heels look, you will understand how difficult it is to walk in said combinaton; to imitate this look but not trip every couple paces, try pairing artfully scrunched nude socks with a cute pair of neutral flats.

As always, I would kill to have these lovely outfits in my closet. Below are my favorite looks from the collection:

Twilight Zone

"From Dusk 'Till Dawn" from Vogue Australia's November 2009 issue, styled by Naomi Smith, photographed by William Davidson and modeled by the simply stunning Egle Tvirbutaite. The best editorials are those which give you goosebumps even with the simplest of styling. I'll have to keep a closer eye on Vogue Australia from now on; I'm in love.

Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2010

Alexander McQueen continues his reign as the most innovative designer in fashion currently with his Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Teaming up with Lady Gaga, who premiered her new single "Bad Romance" at the show, and broadcasting his show live on the web, McQueen continues to redefine the fashion show.

The clothes themselves are, as usual, thought-provoking and exquisite. Reptilian and sea-born, iridescent scales and aquatic colors defines the collection. According to Sarah Mower of style.com, the official press release for the collection said that it was "an apocalyptic forecast of the future ecological meltdown of the world: Humankind is made up of creatures that evolved from the sea, and we may be heading back to an underwater future as the ice cap dissolves."

McQueen certainly captures that in short dresses that capture marine life as well as patterns that make the models look as if their coloring is sending a warning -- albeit a stunning one -- much as many creatures do in the wild. The shapes range from voluminous and bubbly to stiffly structured like coral or fins; it isn't anything out of the ordinary for "edgy" fashion but combined with the prints and other details it makes for mindblowing apparel.

The shoes are nearly as insane as Nina Ricci's Fall 2009 footwear, intricately made (and seemingly impossible to wear practically). The designs reinforce the reptilian and aquatic nature of the show, while adding typical McQueen over-the-top flair.

The other details made the show as fantastical and awe-inspiringly beauitful as it was. The hair had almost a galatic feel, imitating fins and reptilian bone structure, and evidences McQueen's relationship with Lady Gaga, who always styles her hair in the most eccentric ways. The craftsmanship is gorgeous, per usual, and the dresses truly do look as if they have scales or other aquatic enhancements while still remaining feminine.

Overall this collection is by far one of my favorites by McQueen. I wish I could own every single piece; unfortunantely, I think only Lady Gaga will have that privilige.
